There are a number of printers connected to the school network for you to use. These won't be connected to your computer initially - it's a simple process to connect to a printer near you.

Adding a Printer or Copier

Note that this process only applies to Windows computers - it will not work on other computers, or on tablet devices.

The process for connecting to a printer is as follows:

  • Login to any school computer as a staff member and open Internet Explorer (the process will not work if you use another browser).
  • Select the Hampshire School Printers item from the Favorites menu, or follow the Add Printer link on the Teachers Homepage.
  • A list of all printers is shown on screen. Note that the first colum is the printer name - you may find colum three, 'Location', helpful in confirming that the printer is the one you require.
  • Click on the printer you want to connect to - a details page is shown, including a list of documents currently being printed.
  • On the left isde of hte screen, press 'connect' to install the printer and confirm that you want to install the printer when asked.
  • After a moment, the printer is installed on your computer and ready for use.
  • The printer will now display in the Print dialog from any applciation. If you don't initially see the printer, close the Print dialog and select Print again.

Removing a Printer or Copier

Removing a printer or copier is sometimes necessary and is achieved as follows:

  • Press the 'Start' button (that's the coloured orb in the bottom left of the screen) and select 'Devices and Printers'

Printers that are unavaialble will be semi-transparet and may also show a yellow warning triangle.

  • Right-click the printer you wish to remove and select 'Remove device'
  • When prompted to confirm the action, select 'Yes'

Repeat this process for each printer you wish to remove.

Scanning

In addition to printing and copying, all of our photocopiers also allow you to scan documents to the network for use on a connected device.

Here's how to scan:

  • place your document on the glass (or multiple pages in the document feeder)
  • at the copier screen, press the Scan icon (or the Scanner button at the left)
  • choose the destination for your scan, either the StudentScans folder or TeacherScans folder on the respective network disk
  • optionally set other options, like the document name, or document quality using the other menu buttons
  • you can also choose whether your document arrives as an image (TIFF) or a document (PDF)
  • remember to collect your documents from the right folder (either StudentScans or TeacherScans)

Printing Booklets

Sometimes it's more practical to handout classroom materials in booklet form, but this can be tricky if you haven't done it before. Here's the easy way to printing your own booklets; these will print on A4 and fold down to A5 when finished - the only thing you will need to do is fold them in half!

Step 1:

  • Create your booklet in your favourite application; Word is a good choice
  • Your page should be set to A4 and your pages should be in the order they will appear in the booklet (i.e. sequential)
  • One page of your A4 document will be one page of your booklet; you don’t need to shrink / resize / reorder your pages for printing
  • Save your document as a PDF (or print to PDF, as explained in my email of Feb 12)

Step 2:

  • Open your PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader and select Print
  • Select ‘Booklet’ from the Page Size and Handling options
  • Review the booklet in the Preview window and make sure the pages appear in the correct order; pages containing an image may take a little longer to appear

When you press Print, the document will begin printing; all you need to do is collect each booklet and fold in half.

Printing Multiple Pictures

Printing pictures on Windows is a quick process. Here's how to print lots of pictures without pasting them into another application.

  • Open Windows Explorer
  • Select the pictures you want to print (use Ctrl-Click and Shift-Click for different selection patterns)
  • Using the mouse of touchpad, right-click your selection
  • Choose 'Print'
  • Using the Print options, select how many of your pictures you want to see on each page, from as few as 1 to as many as 35
  • Press print and you're done
