Welcome back to school. We are looking forward to children returning on Monday 7th September for the Autumn term and we hope that children are excited to meet their teacher and classmates. Teachers have been busy preparing their classes and learning activities.

It is important that children arrive fully prepared for the start of their first day of school in the new term. The information below will provide useful guidance and reminders.

Full opening to all pupils on 7th September 2020

In July we published a detailed explanation of the return to school arrangements and if you have not already done so, please read this before the your child returns to school next week. The document includes specific information for all children regarding arrival times and entry points for all children. In order for us to maintain safety of all pupils and staff, children are required to arrive at a set time and enter through the correct entry point - one of our three pedestrian gates. Staff will be waiting to receive children and ensure that they safely meet their teacher and together make their way to class. Parents are not permitted to enter the school grounds. Guidance on aspects of school that are not covered in the guidance referred our letter regarding the start of term can be found in the Parents section of our website.

Children joining Year 3

For children joining Year 3, we have published a comprehensive set of resources and guidance for you and your child. In July we invited parents of all children joining Year 3 to provide us with key information about you and your child. If you have not already done so, it is essential that you provide this as soon as possible so that we are fully able to care for your child - this is particularly important if your child has a medical condition or dietary requirement.

School uniform

Please review our school uniform requirements to ensure that your child is wearing appropriate uniform, as explained on the school website. Children are expected to wear appropriate school uniform at all times and to also wear appropriate PE uniform during PE and sport sessions at school. We are aware that Marks and Spencer have experienced delays in the manufacture of Hook Junior School branded uniform items and therefore if your child may not have some items for the start of term. If this is the case, please ensure that your child wears uniform items that reflect, as closely as possible, the expectations explained on our School Uniform page.

School lunches

Children are to have only fruit or vegetables as a playtime snack. We encourage you to opt for packed lunches in disposable wrappings or containers. If your child will require a school lunch, they will be invited to choose this from the avialable options at the start of the school day. All children in receipt of free school meals will be provided with a catered school lunch. We will be operating a staggered lunchtime with children remaining in their classes (bubbles) to eat their lunch. After lunch, tables will be cleaned in time for lessons.

Staying Hydrated

All children must bring a water bottle with them to school. Bottles can be filled at a number of water fountains during the school day. We do not provide disposable cups.
