Although snow forced school to close on World Book Day, we were determined to ensure that children enjoyed a range of activities planned for our World Book Day.

World Book Day activities at Hook Junior School eventually took place a week later than planned on Thursday 8th March 2018. It was a fantastic day of fun honouring books in all their shapes and sizes.

In preparation for the day, class teachers all decorated their classroom doors with displays that represented their favorite books, including The Lorax, Tom Gates and Alice in Wonderland.

Children arrived at school in some wonderful costumes inspired by characters from their favorite books. We extend our thanks to you as parents and carers for the contribution you made to such a successful day - it was amazing to see the whole school dressed up as so many characters. School staff also joined in and wore costumes and children thoroughly enjoyed guessing the character and choosing their best dressed teacher - awarded to Mr French for his 'Gansta Granny' outfit.

In class, children enjoyed reading together at a number of set times during the day, sharing stories, introducing each other to books and discussing the things they have been reading.

This year, children participated in a book swap and many have found a new favourite in our whole school book The Lost Thing. We hope this has provided your child with the opportunity to read something new and exciting and encourages them to maintain their good reading habits.
