Blend together more than 20 schools, over 500 children (including more than 40 from Hook Junior School!) and months of hard work and what do you get? BPSM Anvil concerts 2018!

These took place Tuesday and Wednesday evenings this week and were fantastic events, showcasing the talents of primary school children from across the Basingstoke area. This included Hook Junior School’s very own orchestra - aided by Mrs Raimbaux and Mrs Linehan-Hill. And Choir members from years 4, 5 and 6 - skilfully prepared by Mrs Laird.

The theme of this year’s concert was music from ‘Around the World’ and the evening kicked off with a rousing performance of ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin. The audience were then taken on a musical journey across the continents, through a mix of genres – from legendary hits such as Toto’s Africa, Don’t Stop Believing and Move It, Move It from the film Madagascar, to classics like In the Hall of the Mountain King and the James Bond theme. There was something for everyone!

The concert ended on a high-note with a foot-tapping, high-energy performance of ‘All Over the World’, with both audience and performers clapping along and singing enthusiastically to the ELO classic.

The orchestra and choir’s endeavours and the amazing team-work and commitment they demonstrated throughout the rehearsals and concerts, ensured that BPSM 2018 really was ‘The Greatest Show’… A huge well done!

Would you like to be part of BPSM Anvil Concert in 2019?

Both the orchestra and choir will be welcoming new recruits next term.

In addition to playing at the Anvil, they perform throughout the year in Christmas concerts, Junior and Infant assemblies, at major school events, such as this year’s new building opening ceremony, and the annual ‘Strawberry Tea’ in the summer term.

If you play an orchestral instrument and have been having lessons for six months or more, orchestra would love to hear from you. They rehearse Friday mornings from 8am in the school hall and it’s free to attend. Just come along to a taster session 2nd week back in September.

If you are thinking of taking up an instrument, then please contact the school office who will provide further information regarding the instrumental lessons offered at Hook.

Love to sing? Then choir meet every Tuesday after school in the school hall. More information can be found in the extra-curricular activity sheets due to be distributed before the end of term.
