Sport is a very important part of Hook Junior School life, both during curriculum time and through extra-curricular activities.

The Wheeler Cup is awarded to an outstanding and committed sporting pupil.  The cup was presented to the school on her retirement by a teacher who was committed to improving the sporting talent of Hook Junior pupils.

The sports on offer, catering for both boys and girls, are football, netball, lacrosse, hockey, rugby, cricket, judo, dance, gymnastics, biathlon and cross country.

Some of the school clubs are free of charge as they are taken by teachers in the school, while for others there is a small charge as they are organised by outside agencies.

Our school is a member of the NEHSSP, a body that arranges many tournaments and sporting activities for children.  We are very proactive and our primary link teacher, Mrs Tyne, attends regular NEHSSP days.

U.11 Kwik Cricket Finals: On 30 June '09 the Ull Cricket Team went to the Rose Bowl to represent our area at the finals day of the Kwik Cricket Competition.  They lost in the semi-finals, finishing 3rd out of the 200 Hampshire schools who entered the competition.

U.10 Cricket: After winning the area competition, the team went to Burridge on 23 June 09 to compete in the Hampshire Finals. They progressed to the finals, but lost. As runners up they, along with the winners, represented Hampshire at the West England finals in Taunton on 2 July.

Dance Challenge: This was a new event organised by The North East Hampshire Schools Sport Partnership held at the Princes Theatre in Aldershot in March 2009. There were 23 entries for the competition and the standard of the entries was very high.  Our Year 5/6 dancers won the award for best soundtrack. The sound track was their voices, not music. The children performed the Hakka and extended the routine into We Will Rock You.

Girls_Football_runnersup.jpg (126087 bytes)Girls Football: The girls played their final league match against Hawley on 1 May '08. Both teamshad won all their matches and the winner would be league champion. Hook played well and leveled the score from 3-1 down, but lost by a goal in the final minutes to finish the season as runners-up.

Boys 11-a-side Football League: After a great finish to the season, the U11 boys were runners-up in the league. Congratulations to all the boys who played for the team.

Hockey: During Spring Term 2008, the Hockey A team won the winter league. It was a  great achievement. They faced tough opposition throughout the winter tournament but managed to overcome the challenge and come out on top.

In February 2007 a number of pupils took part in the National School Biathlon. All the boys were well placed with one of them finishing as high as fourth place. Our pupils have also had considerable success in Cross Country competitions.

The last nine years have seen a great deal of success for the school’s football teams. We have won the 8-a-side and 11-a-side leagues twice and have been runners-up twice. We have been finalists in the Standing Cup Final (the area schools’ Cup Final) six times, bringing the trophy back to Hook Junior School four times. We have also been runners-up and Winners or our area Adidas Predator 6-a-side competition.
The netball team has also won their league on one occasion.

Kwik Cricket has taken a hold on Hook Junior School and the teams have been runners-up in the Basingstoke Kwik Cricket Festival 3 times and Winners once; we have won the North Hampshire Area Cricket Festival 4 times and gone on to represent the area at the County Finals at the Hampshire CC Ground.

A truly memorable achievement was winning the Hampshire Softball Cup in 2000, in which 43 teams took part, after being semi finalists the previous year.
