Learning at home can siginficantly improve the abilities of a child. Here are some suggestions for helping your child learn whilst they are at home.


Try to read for twenty minutes each day and choose a wide range of genres including non-fiction and classic texts.


Use this list of all spelling words to help you practise.

Please look in your yellow books for your personal spellings, as well as spellings you need to practise from the Year 3 and Year 4 spelling lists. Spelling is an important part of mastering writing throughout the new curriculum.

Try to use some of the games and activities from class (e.g. rainbow writing, hangman, chanting letters, clapping out syllables) to help you practise at home.

Times tables

Please make sure you can recall all the times table up to 12 x 12. Being confident with your times tables will make a huge difference to your ability to solve all sort of different mathematical problems. Use our Times Tables practise page and Number Bond Generator to help you do this.
