Christmas Truce Charity Football

Sunday 21st December 11am to 3.30pm, Hartletts Park, Hook

The idea for this event has come from Thomas Affleck-Cruise, aged 10, with the aim to raise as much money as possible for the two charities, The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes. It will commemorate the centenary of the Christmas Truce which took place on the Western Front, Christmas 1914 and will mark those fleeting moments of peace and friendship during the dark days of the First World War.

Hook United Youth Football Club are helping to run the event and the tournament will take place on the football pitches in Hartletts Park, Hook on Sunday 21st December from 11 am to 3.30pm. It is open to young people aged from 8 to 18 years of age and each participant will be responsible for their own sponsorship. Sponsorship forms will be available from local schools or by ringing and registering an interest in being involved - you can also download one below. All the money generated from the event will be equally divided and given to the two charities, The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes. Both charities are delighted with the idea and are keen to support it.

Hook Junior School, Greenfields Junior School in Hartley Wintney, Whitewater Primary School in Rotherwick and Robert May’s School have been emailed and have been asked to share the information with students, raise awareness and hand out sponsorship forms.

It is hoped that parents of those involved and other individuals will be keen to support the event, raise awareness and attend on the day.

Tesco in Hook have agreed to support the event with the donation of traditional British and German snacks.

There will be a moment of reflection and it is hoped that all those gathered will sing the carol Silent Night in both English and German and the reading out of the names of the men who died in both wars from Hook and surrounding villages.

Needed now are participants and volunteers on the day, all are welcome and please contact either by email or phone to register your interest and/or support:
